We, the members, are the National Watercolor Society we stand together, 100 Years Strong. Our future shines bright as we enter our next century. What began 100 years ago with a few artists has grown into an organization of thousands. I am very proud to be a member of the National Watercolor Society. You helped reward the best of the best in a grand way. Thank you also to the sponsors, patrons and donors that support our mission and the promotion of innovative watermedia and artists through education, exhibitions and outreach. They have put down their brushes to make this year possible. My very special thanks to the all-volunteer NWS Board of Directors and our special volunteers for their dedication to the National Watercolor Society. Lauded Judge of Awards Mary Whyte had the difficult task of choosing the best of the best, and she chose those that spoke to the soul and rose up above the rest with mastery. My hat is off to our celebrated jurors Katherine Chang Liu, NWS, Dean Mitchell, NWS and John Salminen, NWS, whose collective expertise chose the exhibition of the century. The breadth and caliber of the artwork is truly amazing and includes landscapes, cityscapes, abstracts, portraits, still life, realism, impressionism, innovation and experimental works. Our 100th International Open Exhibition is stunning. The early members' clothes and tools were different, but the spirit for creating and the passion for watermedia has remained constant. Salute to 100 years of raw, innovative, brave watermedia painters.”įor a century the National Watercolor Society exhibiting artists have inspired the world with their artwork.
